Knock the door of our brains now. An excellent simple maths (easy) problem that give birth to how quickly we settle into habits, is the following math exercise. Start by adding a few numbers in your mind. Do this in mind not on a piece of paper because it’s very easy!

Think about 1000

Then add 40

Add another 1000

Add 30

Add another 1000

Add 20

Add another 1000.

Add 10

What do we get? Maximum solvers answer 5000. Some of them scream out loud 6000. Others try to say 4700, some guess 5,100. And few say, 4100. No doubt, 4100 is right solution. Can’t believe on me? Please, do it again.

It’s the last addition of 10 that create an problem with our mind. Most solver get stuck adding 4090 plus 10. They directly say 5000. Nothing to worry, this is basic brain behaviour. This creates an barrier to be smart! (special barrier for productivity and profitability).

Patterns are the most favorite of our . What number is repeated in the math problem? A thousand. So when the brain is asked to add ten it’s already tuning out the request by jumping into the pattern of thousands.

Look, your brain is part of your body, right? Think. Just eat a good variety of reasonably healthy stuff, don’t eat too much, get out and exercise once or twice a week, and you’ll be fine. If you keep your body in pretty good shape, guess what? Your mind will come along for the ride and maintain its plasticity as you age.

Critical thinking is “disciplined and focused thinking”. This happens when we draw on our existing knowledge, experience and apply our problem-solving skills, to do things like: Reason why things happen Assess ideas and form opinions Understand other viewpoints and perspectives Make predictions of outcomes Come up with creative solutions Draw up comparisons, evaluate differences and understand relationships
