What happened to the Death Rate of India due to COVID?
Abstract
This compact study focused on the death rate and corresponding growth rate per year in India. The deaths that occurred due to corona during the pandemic, if we tune any news channel in every 20 mins they telecast or broadcast something related to deaths due to corona on the headline bar or the mainstreaming screen. I was so curious to see the change in death rate but, something came out and I was surprised.
Spread of Coronavirus in India
Initially, when there was a hike of coronavirus cases all over the world at that time India was not having an impact of the virus. As per the analysis, the number of cases started increasing due to international travel, and cases were originated abroad than transmitted within India. I still remember the first case in India was detected on 30th January 2020 which was found later originated abroad. Till then, the virus might have got its path for spread because the patient has also traveled inter-district before being tested positive.
The first wave was between 30th January to 3rd February having around 3500 people detected positive. The scale of our perception of looking at the number of cases of the corona is widened over time. Many of us may look at this number as, oh just this much? Because currently, we are having 6000 positive cases on daily basis.
I will not go too deep into the year 2020 because we don’t have to discuss corona, we have to discuss the death rate and its growth rate of India. Follow the below diagram which is showing the no. of new cases and the number of deaths per month in India in 2020 from March to August. A thing to notice is clear, the increasing number of deaths per month.
Death Rate of India over the Years
After looking and analyzing the last graph, I was worried about the death rate might have been increased a lot in India. But to my surprise, if you can see the blue line following bars of green bars from 2018 to 2021. The increase in growth rate happened in 2019 when there was no corona case in India. From 2019 to today, the death rate is increased but we have to look at it properly that the growth rate is almost constant. This growth rate is of increase in death rate every year.
What we need to see!
Then the next question that arises in mind is, why we feel that the deaths have been increased?
This leads to trauma rather than taking care. What is needed is to take proper precautions, following the rules and regulations set by the government bodies. After the first wave, people took it very casually and the consequences are in front of us now. This is one part where we might have gone wrong.
The second and the most important part as per me is the ease of access to resources, media publicity of it has been the major reasons for the birth of negative thoughts. We were not used to listening to such numbers rather we never looked at the annual statistics of deaths and why one would like to see that? The point I want to mention here is, we have widened the scope of perception, we have managed to live with these restrictions. So now, we will overcome the wave of negative thoughts before the estimated third wave of the corona.
The growth rate of deaths per year is nearly constant. The over-exposure to such news content and discussions insisted that, we have the fear about the virus. We should have awareness rather than fear, we should have immunity rather than fear, we should have faith rather than fear to overcome, to destroy the virus.
The increasing number of cases and deaths are impacting our thoughts, the incidents and situations faced by many are frightening. But I want to spread a thought of positivity among the people reading this piece, we have to hold each other mentally. Just forget about the number of deaths, from today look at the statistics of people recovered I’m sure that, it will make you happy and pleasant.
